Message from the BAS President
July 2010
Dear friends,
July 2010 will serve as a time to reflect on the history of our Congregation and the legacy of Rabbi Mark Shrager. This month will also mark the beginning of a new Chapter in the life of our Bnai Abraham Synagogue.
After 17 years, Rabbi Mark Shrager’s obligations to the Congregation will officially come to an end. With July being the formal month of vacation for Rabbi Shrager, we look forward to seeing him in his new position as Rabbi Emeritus starting August 1, 2010.
Rabbi Daniel Stein officially begins his service in the position of RABBI of Bnai Abraham Synagogue on August 1, 2010. We look forward to a long and meaningful relationship with Rabbi Daniel and Dena in the coming months and years ahead.
Not to be outdone, July begins a two year term for the newly elected Board of Directors. Ironically, Synagogue Bylaws stipulate that the Board begins the new term with an optional one month hiatus from Board Meetings.
The new Chapter in the history of Bnai Abraham Synagogue begins with a new Rabbi, Rabbi Emeritus, and new Board of Directors, all of whom are officially on vacation starting in July.
At first read, you might suspect Bnai Abraham to be a sleepy quiet place during the month of July. If so, time for an uplifting dose of reality:
While it is true that we do not have Friday night services in July, services will be held on Thursday and Saturday mornings, with Shabbat services led by Gerald Weisberger.
The office staff of Elaine and Trish will be closing the books on one fiscal year and preparing for the High Holidays and the year ahead. Bruce will be working to prepare the synagogue for Camptown, the High Holidays, and the BAS/TCP Religious School partnership, all of which are just around the corner.
In addition, while one Rabbi will be packing and reviewing open items with members and the office staff, another Rabbi will be unpacking, meeting with committee members, and working to get up and running as quickly as possible. For both Rabbi Shrager and Rabbi Stein, much of their time off in July will center around Bnai Abraham.
Last but not least, the Board appears ready to get right to work. Not only is there old business to wrap up, there are also fresh new ideas and enthusiasm coming from many members of the Board.
Therefore, while we all look to the summer months as a time to slow down and reflect, may we also use this time to foster the connections and relationships we have with one another. Together, we can begin writing and illustrating the next Chapter in the life of Bnai Abraham Synagogue.
Have a wonderful summer!
Warmest regards,
Aron Hochhauser
